Pickup TWIN SoundSpot Classic
Position At the bridge
Applying
The
Pickup
The pickups are adhered near the bridge with double-sided adhesive tape, with the metal side facing the instrument’s top. The cables between the pickup and jack should be secured with tape to avoid rattling.
Jack The 1/4″ jack is fixed above the strap button with a dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.
Usage Tips This pickup was developed to produce a soft, natural tone with medium volume. It’s designed to work with all bass amplifiers.
If you want increased volume, try a preamp with an extremely high input impedance (greater than 5 Megohms). For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

Position On the head, close to the rim
Applying
The
Pickup
In general, the pickups should be affixed to the heads on the side farthest from you, making it less likely that you will inadvertently hit them. You’ll have to experiment with the best placement of the pickups, since your personal taste, playing style, and amplifier will all have a bearing on the final sound.During testing, place a strip of fabric tape (adhesive or gaffer’s tape) over the pickup’s plastic side and then firmly press the tape’s edges to secure it. After you find the best location, permanent mounting is best done with double-stick tape.Rough heads, especially those made of natural skin, need to be smoothed with fine sandpaper at the location where the pickup will be attached. This facilitates adhesion.
Jack Use a dual-lock hook-and-loop strip to secure the 1/4″ jack between the bongos, or attach the jack to the side of one bongo’s shell.
Usage Tips Bongos can be played through most amplifiers, but you should increase the bass and decrease the treble for the most natural tone. Because the TWIN SoundSpot Classic is very sensitive, high treble settings can cause bongos to sound more like tablas (try it—you might like the effect!). For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

Bouzouki20100614175732
Pickup TWIN SoundSpot Classic
Position One pickup disc each at the far left and right, clamped between the bridge and the top
Applying
The
Pickup
Before you proceed, remove the nameplate stickers from the pickup discs. Instead of gluing the pickups to the instrument, you must wedge them under the bridge with their metal side against the bouzouki’s top. Make sure that the pickups are clamped under the outermost points of the bridge’s sides (you can lift the bridge there without first removing the strings). The bridge stands on the pickup discs, which are only about 3/16″ (5mm) thick. Only the thinnest part of each disc’s front is pushed under the bridge.Note: To eliminate rattling, use a piece of tape to secure the cable running from the pickups to the output jack.
Jack A 1/4″ output jack is attached to the bottom of the instrument using a dual-locking hook-and-loop strip.
Usage Tips

All guitar amps and most other instrument amps are suitable for use with an amplified bouzouki. For P.A. and recording applications, a balanced sound is easily achieved with a high-quality direct box. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-qualit direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

Pickup Two TWIN SoundSpot Classics
Position On the bridge, with one disc beneath each string
Applying
The
Pickup
You can either apply the pickup discs permanently, or so that they can be easily removed. Using double-sided adhesive tape makes it easy to remove the pickups, and super glue (cyanoacrylate) creates a permanent bond. Using super glue also increases the output level because the pickups make direct contact with the bridge material. Regardless of which method you choose, mount the pickups so that their metal side faces the bridge.
Note: To prevent rattling sounds from making their way into the pickup, make sure that the wires leading to the pickups don’t contact any of the instrument’s surfaces.
Jack The 1/4″ jacks attach to the tailpiece by using the supplied self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.
Usage Tips Bass amps are best suited for reproducing low frequencies, but some guitar amps and many keyboard amps are also capable of handling the extreme range. For the most natural sound, don’t turn the amp’s treble too high—especially if you mount the pickups with super glue. Using a preamp gives you greater control over the sound, especially if you are plugging into a P.A. system rather than an amplifier. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

Piano  20100614180515
Pickup 1 TWIN SoundSpot XL and 1 TWIN SoundSpot Classic
Position TWIN SoundSpot XL on the soundboard beneath the piano, behind the bass strings’ bridge
TWIN SoundSpot Classic behind the middle strings’ bridge
Applying
The
Pickup
You can apply the pickup using either of two methods. Quick way: Stick a piece of gaffer’s tape over the plastic side of the pickup disc and press firmly around the pickup’s edge. Permanent way: Use super glue (cyanoacrylate).
Important Note: Each grand piano has different characteristics, so you will have to find the best locations for the pickups. Therefore, if you intend to permanently mount them on the piano, use gaffer’s tape while experimenting; then affix the pickups with super glue.
To find the bridges’ locations, use your knuckles to lightly tap on the grand piano’s bottom. Where it sounds dull, a bridge is attached on the other side of the soundboard; where the tone is hollow, it’s wide-open soundboard without a bridge affixed. Once you locate the bridges, mark them with a piece of tape or a pencil. The optimum sound is achieved with the pickups attached two fingers’ width behind the bridges, with their metal sides facing the wood.
TWIN SoundSpot XL: The two pickups should be attached behind the bass bridge about 10″ (25.4cm) apart on the left and right side.
TWIN SoundSpot Classic: Only the middle strings will be picked up on the middle and high strings’ bridge. (The high strings provide enough volume to be amplified without their own pickup.) Place one pickup behind the low part of the middle strings and the other one behind the high part.
Note: To get the best sound, move the pickups a little bit at a time, listening to the amplified sound after each installation. Use gaffer’s tape for this. If you intend to permanently mount the pickups, use super glue only after you have found the optimum placements.
Jack Both the TWIN SoundSpot XL and TWIN SoundSpot Classic are wired to a 1/4″ jack, which attaches to the piano with a self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.
Usage Tips You can use these pickups with guitar, keyboard, or vocal amplifiers. Obviously, because the piano has a wide range, you want to use an amplifier with great range and fidelity. Because the piano installation uses two pickup systems, you can plug the into two separate channels and adjust the balance to suit your taste. For mono applications, the wires from both pickup sets can be soldered into one jack. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.20100614180531

Position One pickup disc under each end of the bridge, clamped between the bridge and top
Applying
The
Pickup
Remove the nameplate stickers from the pickup discs. The discs won’t be glued to the top, but rather held under the bridge by the pressure exerted by the strings. Make sure the pickup discs are clamped under the farthest points of the bridge’s ends. Note: Only the thinnest part of the discs should be pushed under the bridge. You will probably have to loosen the strings a little so that the bridge can be raised enough to accommodate the discs. Once the discs are in place, tape the cord to the guitar’s body so it won’t rattle.
Jack A 1/4″ jack is attached to the guitar at its lower bout near the strap button. Use the self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.
Usage Tips All standard guitar amps can be used with a guitar equipped with the TWIN SoundSpot Classic. Also note that using the TWIN SoundSpot Classic on guitars with magnetic pickups allows you to mix in an added dimension of clarity and tone. Experiment combining the two signals, o placing them in different channels of a stereo amp or recording setup. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

Position Near the bridge
Applying
The
Pickup
Use double-sided adhesive tape to attach the pickup discs with their metal side facing the oud’s top. For best results, position the discs as shown. In order to avoid rattling, use tape to secure the two cords leading to the jack.
Jack The 1/4″ output jack should be attached to the lower bottom area of the oud using a self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.
Usage Tips Most amplifiers work well with an oud outfitted with the TWIN SoundSpot Classic, but amps designed especially for acoustic instruments bring out its fullest tone. Reverb is a good addition, adding depth and size to the sound. For extra control, a high-quality preamp works well. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

The
Pickup
Initially, attach the pickup discs near the bridges with gaffer’s tape, and then use a cassette recorder to record the sound you get at different locations. Take notes and compare the sound at different places. Then attach the pickup discs with double-sided adhesive tape, with the discs’ metal sides toward the sitar’s top. Place each pickup close to one of the bridges. Once the pickup discs are in place, use tape to hold the cord snug against the instrument to avoid rattling.
Jack The 1/4″ output jack is held against the lower part of the sitar’s body using a self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.

Steel Drum (Pans)  20100614222854
Pickup Two TWIN SoundSpot Classics
Position At four locations, 90° apart
Applying
The
Pickup
Because of the steel drum’s curved surfaces, two-step epoxy glue must be used to attach the pickup discs. Before permanently affixing the pickup discs, attach them with gaffer’s tape with the metal side against the steel drum’s surface. Once you find optimum locations, use a quick-setting epoxy to attach the pickup discs. Keep the discs held firmly against the metal surface by using gaffer’s tape until the glue is dry.
Jack The jacks are taped to the inside of the drum with a self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip in such a way that they can’t easily be seen, but are quickly accessed. The outputs from multiple TWIN SoundSpot Classic pickups can be connected in parallel for use with a single amp, or they can be plugged into multiple channels for blending. Note: Don’t connect more than 11 or 12 pickups together if you are combining their signals.
Usage Tips Using both outputs from one or more steel drums simultaneously allows you to create spacious stereo images. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

Position In the openings of the bridges
Applying
The
Pickup
Use super glue (cyanoacrylate) to adhere the pickups in the bridges’ openings, making sure that there is at least 10″ of space between the upper and lower pickup pairs. This helps to balance the sound. In order to keep the cords from rattling, tape them down to the soundboard at three or four points.
Jack The two 1/4″ jacks should be taped to the narrow sides of the instrument using self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strips.
Usage Tips Using two pickups for the hammer dulcimer provides an exceptionally spacious sound, whether plugged into a P.A. system, two amplifiers, a stereo amp, or a recording console. Because the bass and treble strings are picked up separately, they can be processed separately and placed in the stereo spectrum to suit your taste.
Note: Using a dual-mono-to-single-mono Y-cord allows you to run the pickups in mono mode. You can also run the pickups’ output to an electronic tuner to aid tuning the instrument. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

For best results, install the pickups with the metal side facing the instrument’s top, positioning them in the locations shown in the diagram. Attach the two pickups with double-sided adhesive tape (its sticky film is removable and, therefore, shouldn’t harm the guitar’s finish). Use tape to hold the two cables against the top to avoid rattling.
Jack The 1/4″ output jack is held on the guitar’s end with a self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.
Usage Tips For the best sound, use a good amplifier designed for acoustic guitar. Standard guitar amps can also be used, as well as preamps plugged into a mixing console or P.A. system. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.
