Applying The Pickup |
Ride cymbal: Using a piece of adhesive tape or gaffer’s tape, attach the HOT SoundSpot—Cymbal pickup, metal side to the cymbal, on the underside of the cymbal directly beside the hole. Press the tape firmly around the pickup disc (after the cymbal is screwed onto the stand, the felt washer will add additional pressure).Crash cymbal: Prepare the cymbal by cleaning the bell’s underside with a piece of cloth. Stick a 1″(25mm) strip of double-sided adhesive tape approximately 1″(25mm) from the hole. (Note: When the cymbal is placed on its stand, the pickup must not touch the felt washer.) Press the pickup’s metal side against the double-stick adhesive tape. Use a strip of adhesive or gaffer’s tape to add further hold-down strength (remember, a crash cymbal does a lot of moving around!).
Jack | Attach the 1/4″ jack to the cymbal stand with a pipe clip. Make sure that there is enough slack in the cord between the pickup and the mounting point on the stand so that the cord doesn’t affect the cymbal’s ability to freely rock around.
Usage Tips | For P.A. use, turn the bass down (most cymbals don’t produce a large volume of bass frequencies). Alter the treble and presence to suit your taste. Multiple cymbals can be connected in parallel. In addition, the output from the HOT SoundSpot—Cymbal pickup can be used to trigger many MIDI drum systems. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested. |
