The
Pickup
Find a location on the conga’s head that won’t be hit during most playing, and affix the pickup with its metal side against the head. Finding the best location will take a bit of experimentation, so don’t attach the pickup permanently until you’ve found the best spot for your needs. For testing, hold the pickup down with a 1″-wide piece of adhesive tape; stick it over the black side of the HOT SoundSpot and press the tape firmly around it. Once you’ve found the optimum location, remove the adhesive tape and affix the pickup to the head using double-sided adhesive tape.If you plan to attach the HOT SoundSpot to a drum that has a natural skin head covered with fur, smooth the area with fine sandpaper before applying the double-stick tape. This ensures better adhesion.

Note: Two or more congas’ pickups can be combined for a single output.

Jack The 1/4″ output jack should be adhered to the outside of the conga using the included jack clip.
Usage Tips Because you’ll most likely amplify your congas through a P.A. system or vocal amplifier, you’ll have to adjust the EQ to suit the instrument. Try increasing the bass while decreasing the treble. It may also be necessary to decrease the midrange in the 1kHz range. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.
Here are some important points to remember:

  1. When playing two congas, you can split the sound into two channels for stereo.
  2. When recording, you can employ two HOT SoundSpot pickups and a microphone for an extra-big sound. Plug the HOT SoundSpot on the left conga into channel 1, the right conga’s HOT SoundSpot into channel 2, and send the overhead microphone to channel Various mixing levels and EQ will create different effects.
  3. HOT SoundSpot pickups can be used as trigger pickups when plugged into drum machines or controllers that accept pickups.
  4. Even in small clubs or rehearsal rooms, using a HOT SoundSpot pickup through an amplifier expands the sound and makes it easier for you to play without compensating for loud guitars, drums, etc.
  5. Using HOT Soundspot pickups instead of microphones allows you to run your onstage monitors louder without feedback

The
Pickup
Use super glue (cyanoacrylate) to adhere the metal side of the pickup disc to the side of the glass. Make sure that the area to be glued is clean an completely dry. While gluing the disc to the surface, press the pickup against the glass using a pencil eraser; this will provide adequate pressure to assure a strong bond while minimizing the possibility of sticking your fingers to the glass or pickup.
Jack A 1/4″ jack is provided for the HOT SoundSpot (a mini jack comes with the HOT SoundSpot—Cymbal), already attached to the cord. It can be taped to the backside of the glass or bottle, or allowed to sit on a table near the glass or bottle.
Usage Tips Play the side of the glass or bottle opposite the pickup.
Using a number of glasses, you can assemble a glass harp. When you us multiple pickups, they can be combined either with a mixer or by rewiring them in parallel to a single jack. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

Hand Drums  20100615183549

Position At the edge of the skin
Applying
The
Pickup
Find a place on the drum’s head and attach the metal side of the pickup to it using a piece of gaffer’s tape. This is a temporary approach, and you should experiment with a couple of different locations to get the best tone and greatest resistance to feedback (moving the pickup closer to the center of the head increases the potential for feedback). Firmly press the tape around the pickup for best contact. After locating the optimum position, you can attach the pickup with a piece of double-stick adhesive tape. For heads covered with rough fur, you’ll have to smooth the area where the pickup is to be attached; use a piece of fine sandpaper.
Jack The 1/4″ jack is attached to the drum’s side with a special adhesive jack clip. If you use numerous drums, the pickups can be wired in parallel to one output jack, or run into separate channels of a mixer.
Usage Tips To achieve a balanced sound, increase the bass and decrease the treble on your amp or P.A. Refer to the congas’ usage tips for further applications. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.  20100615183605

Mandolin  2010061518450220100615184532
Pickup HOT SoundSpot
Position Between the bridge and top
Applying
The
Pickup
Instead of gluing the pickup, wedge it under the bridge’s center, as shown in the diagram. If there’s to much space for the pickup to fit securely, you can wedge a piece of guitar pick between the HOT SoundSpot’s plastic side and the mandolin’s bridge.
If the bridge already sits flush against the top with no space separating the bridge and top, then file an area on the bridge’s bottom to accommodate the pickup. Be careful not to file too much off of the bridge, and check your work often. Tape the cord to the instrument to keep it from rattling.
Jack The 1/4″ output jack is taped with a clip holder to either the lower bout near the strap pin, or elsewhere (if your case is unable to close with the jack near the strap pin, find another unobtrusive location). You can also use a self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.
Usage Tips Guitar and keyboard amps work very well with this pickup. It’s also great for onstage applications with a P.A. system because of its immunity to most feedback. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.
